User Interface Designer (UI) for Book discovery page – Contract 3 months (m/f) // Springer Nature

We’re looking for a User Interface Designer for our book discovery tool, Bookmetrix. The job is based in Berlin, and you’ll be working with the UX and development team in the Berlin office in Heidelberger platz. The Bookmetrix Bookmetrix provides information and metrics about the widest range of books. Bookmetrix facilitates the job of researchers, authors and institutions by offering detailed and up to date usage data about books. The team You’ll be working closely with a diverse and international team, including the product owner, a user experience designer and a team of developers in an Agile environment.

What you will be doing within the first 6 weeks:
● Understand the purpose, audience and usage of the product
● Understand how the team works and develop a lean waste-free working process that fits into their needs
● Closely collaborate with the team and in particular the UX designer to develop scalable visual design work that meets both user and business goals
● Understand the backlog and create the required deliverables to ensure stories are delivered smoothly without bottlenecks
● Create modular designs with a focus on reusable components
● Work within our design framework to enhance and evolve the work
● Create an understandable and organized workflow in collaboration with the team

6 weeks – 3 months:
● Work within our design framework to enhance and evolve the work
● Experience creating infographics that are primarily easily understandable in terms of meaning whilst being also beautiful, easily readable and take into account accessibility factors.
● Communicate your ideas clearly and concisely and be open to input from other team members and stakeholders
● Socialise and expose your work, making it visible to the team and stakeholders
● Build designs that are device agnostic, adopting a “mobile-first” approach
● Provide input and guidance in terms of overall improvements where they are required and work with the team and product owner to help shape the product backlog.

Daily Delivery
You’ll be an essential part of the daily product development and delivery, taking active part in delivery within your first month. You’ll be delivering iteratively, making sure that solutions are validated post-launch.

You will:
● Work with your product owner, UX, business analysts and developers to build solutions
to user needs iteratively and quickly
● Participate in daily stand-ups with your team
● Collaboratively design, test, and develop solutions with your team
● Have regular catch-ups/meetings with stakeholders

Experience required

● Hands-on experience, in more than 3 commercial products, of working collaboratively with UX designer and front-end developers to create engaging visual experiences that meet both the needs of the business and the target users, from mobile to desktop
● Demonstrate that you produced design artefacts in lean, waste-free way that ensures smooth and incremental delivery without design bottlenecks
● Show experience of working client-side in a corporate environment and following established brand guidelines as well as evolving the visual language when needed
