Geospatial Engineer

The Role

As Maya continues to scale its engineering team, we’re looking for a Geospatial Engineer passionate about making a difference in how Nature-based Solutions are financed and developed. You will play a pivotal role in our development team, contributing to our ambitious roadmap and expanding our offerings. This role offers the unique opportunity to impact our trajectory significantly, solve complex problems, and innovate within the geospatial intelligence domain. You will also have the chance to create first-of-its-kind analyses with unique applications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the research and development of our geospatial data analysis capabilities, owning the integration of new datasets and enhancing our product offerings.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Management and other stakeholders, contributing to the strategic decision-making process and ensuring the alignment of geospatial solutions with business objectives.
  • Innovate and implement features that support the automation of geospatial risk analysis, providing our users with actionable insights for managing natural assets.
  • Ensure the maintainability and scalability of our geospatial data processing infrastructure, addressing complex challenges in data abstraction and coverage.
  • Uphold high standards of code quality and system architecture, advocating for continuous improvement and the adoption of best practices within the team.
  • Prioritise any system bugs and day to-day responsibilities effectively.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience, preferably within a specialist GIS company, with a solid foundation in geospatial engineering, Python, and DevOps.
  • Proven track record of project ownership and a strong ability to integrate innovative datasets into practical applications.
  • Exceptional collaborative skills, with a history of solving complex problems and contributing positively to team dynamics.
  • Expertise in raster and vector data, with a keen interest or experience in machine learning as a plus.
  • Experience with using BigQuery and Google Earth Engine.
  • Experience in deploying geospatial visualisations and the ability to tell a story with data.
  • Worked with packages such as scikit-learn, rioxarray, geopandas, rasterio, plotly, pandas and numpy.
  • Familiarity with contemporary software development practices, including GIT, Docker, and CI/CD methodologies.
  • Experience using QGIS or ArcGIS to display and manipulate geospatial data.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience in a tech startup or product company environment.
  • Knowledge of FastAPI, PostgreSQL, and additional relevant frameworks and languages.
  • Knowledge of parallel computing and optimisation techniques to speed up data processing.
