Business Developer- Partnerships and Strategy

MODIFI’s mission is to help business sellers and buyers around the world grow through innovative solutions in global payments, trade financing and trade management services.

We are looking for an exceptional Business Development Manager to join MODIFI’s central team in Berlin, reporting directly to VP Commercial, to build the next billion dollar markets for MODIFI’s digital trade solutions. In addition, you will be instrumental in further improving business processes and executing strategic initiatives related to our global partners network.

You will:

  • Turn business ideas into reality in one of the largest markets globally: Business Payments!
  • You will be responsible for building and managing strategic relationships in International trade with partners such as Banks, Payments institutions, Trade Finance Institutions, Trade Platforms, Logistics players etc
  • Actively source, evaluate, pitch, and negotiate strong partnerships and manage the ongoing relationships. Own the tracking and fulfillment of all partner obligations while swiftly adjusting the strategy as needed
  • Proactively identify opportunities for business improvement, achieve consensus, and define and execute such strategic initiatives
  • Coordinate with cross functional teams across Product, Sales, Marketing, Finance, Legal and Risk to remove obstacles and close deals
  • Design and implement business systems and processes that enable MODIFI to scale 10x
  • Leverage first- and second-order insights as well as apply technical and operational expertise to identify issues, challenge the status quo, and develop breakthrough solutions

Requirements

  • A positive, hungry and persuasive personality: We’re looking for someone determined and able to grow and win
  • Preferably 4+ years experience in Sales, Business Development, or Partner Management – preferably with at least one prior experience at a high-growth tech startup
  • And/or 3+ years of strategy consulting experience, either from a global top-tier strategy consulting and/or in-house strategy department; fintech/payments and/or B2B experience preferred
  • Background in Payments, Trade Finance, or B2B cross-border business is a big plus
  • Deep understanding of management frameworks and business process optimisation
  • Excellent detail-orientation and analytical skills with the ability to see granular details as well as the big-picture
  • Passion for small and medium-sized businesses, international trade and development and how digital trade can create significant growth for such businesses
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English. Additional language skills e.g. Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, or other languages are a plus
  • Strong relationship building skills coupled with the ability to develop consensus within cross-functional teams
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
